In december 2023, I was hired as System Information developer at the MIGALE bioinformatics facility in the framework of the project Ferments du Futur (FdF), a project funded by the strategic French program France 2030.

One of the main goals of FdF is to conduct research related to strategic topics of fermented foods, in order to generate high quality and multidisciplinary data. This data will ultimately be used to feed predictive models for the design of new fermented foods. In this context, it was imperative to develop a robust information system capable of efficiently storing the massive amount of data that will be generated over the next decade: Siduri (wise female divinity associated with fermentation of the Epic of Gilgamesh).

The audacious tasks of designing and developing Siduri take place at the Migale bioinformatics, where I worked during a year in a close collaboration with other five engineers. I was mainly in charge of the frontend logic and components by using the modern javascript framework vue js.

Siduri is based on the ontology-driven information system OpenSILEX, an open source software suite developed at the research unit MISTEA (INRAE, Montpellier). The original model of scientific objects was adapted for Siduri to store heterogeneous data, including: multi-omics datasets, microbial phenotype profiling, metabolic capacity, microscopy images, sensory analysis, among others.

Being part of the 'first generation' of engineers who helped build Siduri has been an absolute pleasure. I truly believe that the best is yet to come for fermentation technology.
