Stress-related young genes in diverse budding yeasts

research project
In the framework of the European project CHASSY, three different yeast species were grown under multiple stressful conditions in order to identify key stress-induced genes that could improve robustness in future engineered strains.
For these three strains and conditions, transcriptomics and proteomics data were generated, I was in charge of proteomes generation, data analysis and datasets availability.
In a collaboration with members of the consortium, a sorting method was implemented that considered evolutionary origin and duplication timing to assign an evolutionary age to each gene. One of the main outcomes of this work revealed a relationship between stress-induced genes and the youngest gene set, regardless of the species or stress in question.
